Prof William Wijns is director of the Smart Sensors Lab, a key opinion leader and a European expert in interventional cardiology. He is currently co-chair of the ESC Task Force for practice Guidelines on Chronic Coronary Syndromes and has served on various other Guidelines Task Forces in past. Prof Wijns is on the editorial board of 7 journals including the European Heart Journal and is chair of PCR, an educational platform that connects the interventional cardiology community across the globe. In addition, he has served the European Society of Cardiology in various positions, including Scientific Program Chair, Chairman of European Affairs, Vice-President, and President of the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiac Intervention (EAPCI). Prof Wijns has served as board member of several organisations, including the World Heart Federation and co-founded Argonauts Partners, a medical device innovation group. He is Co-founder of Cardio3 and Cardio3BioSciences, and has co-developed C–Cath, a proprietary device for intramyocardial cell injection. Over the past 25 years, he has published 622 papers (54K+ citations) in high impact journals, including New England Journal of Medicine and Lancet.
