Myocardium damage or injury can be caused by acute or non-acute events which can be symptomatic or asymptomatic. Unfortunately, in most cases, this injury is irreversible due to the low regeneration rate of the cardiac cells forming the myocardium. Luckily, this injury can be early detected by measuring troponin levels, considered the gold standard method to rule in/outpatients in the Emergency Department with acute myocardial injury (AMI).
The Smart Sensor Lab is proposing a wearable point-of-care device, for home-based care, capable of performing serial monitoring of troponin levels for clinical/patient decision-making based on reliable and personalized data and for online physician counseling.
